Defensive Pistol Skills 2

Course Description: This course provides additional instruction in the fundamentals of defensive handgunning similar to first-level courses taught at the major shooting academies. This course, when combined with Defensive Pistol Skills, provides the student with the same training as offered in our Advanced Training 1 class.

The emphasis in DPS 2 is in application of skills learned in Defensive Pistol Skills, and learning additional skills such as reloading, malfunction clearing, and shooting from cover. This course, when combined with Defensive Pistol Skills 3, covers all the material presented in the NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home course, with some variations and additional content.

This course is part of the core curriculum of the 40 hour Defensive Pistol Skills Program.

Topics: review of gun safety and defensive shooting fundamentals, drawing from concealment while moving to cover, reloads, malfunction clearing, shooting from awkward positions and other defensive handgunning skills.

Prerequisites: Completion of Defensive Pistol Skills or equivalent required.

Required Equipment: A centerfire handgun, belt holster, a minimum of 2 spare magazines or speedloaders, magazine/speedloader carriers, eye and ear protection, a baseball cap (to deflect spent brass and keep the sun out of your eyes) and a minimum of 200 rounds of ammunition.

Additional information: This course is intended to provide graduates of the Defensive Pistol Skills course a way to complete training equivalent to our older AT-1 course.
