Defensive Shotgun I

Course Description: An overview of the basics of defensive shotgunning.
Topics: shotgun patterning, ammunition selection, standing and kneeling positions, shooting from behind cover, shooting at multiple targets, use of the shotgun for building search, shotgun malfunction drills and generally developing proficiency with the shotgun under stress. Includes roleplaying scenarios using paintball marking rounds.
Length: eight hours
Prerequisites: previous shotgun shooting experience preferred but not essential
Required Equipment: You will need a shotgun (pump or semiauto, 12 Ga or 20 Ga, sling recommended), 150 rounds of target load birdshot, 40 rounds of buck shot (#4 or OO) and 10 slugs. Students should bring a long sleeved shirt and long pants that can be used for the paintball scenarios.
