Welcome!

Since 1991, KR Training has been offering affordable firearms and self-defense courses in the Central Texas area. Our team of male and female instructors teach courses for all levels: beginners, average gun owners, CHL students, serious shooters, instructors and uniformed professionals.

Our CHL courses are "one stop shopping" offering prints, photos, notary, classroom, range and lunch all in one session at one location, taught by a retired Austin PD instructor at his private training facility. Our non-CHL courses are taught by a team of instructors with diverse experience in law enforcement training, defensive skills and competition shooting.

Feel free to call us anytime between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Central Standard Time. Please don't hang up if you call and get voice mail. Leave a message and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. The fastest way to get information is to email us. Unless a class is marked as 'SOLD OUT' on this page, there is space available. We accept Paypal, cash and checks.

What's New?

May 2009: The KR Training May 2009 newsletter is now online. Lots of new classes added for July-November 2009, including the new Defensive Pistol Skills 2 class. Check the schedule page for details. Due to the ammo shortage we are now allowing students to use .22 caliber guns for all non-CHL courses we offer. CHL students must continue to use handguns .32 caliber or greater as required by the state.

We are back from a very successful trip to Tulsa, OK for the annual Polite Society Training Conference. Our force on force scenarios were recorded by the Shooting Gallery show, and they will be seen on national television on an upcoming episode of the Outdoor Channel's Shooting Gallery show. Michael Bane talks about the event on his current podcast. Massad Ayoob's blog post about the Polite Society conference is here. A few pictures and a short writeup is on the KR Training website here

April 2009: The April edition of the KR Training e-news is now online. Read a recent student's blog post about attending a KR Training class. May and June classes added to the schedule. Due to increases in the cost of ammunition, the price for Basic Pistol 1 will increase to $75 starting May 1. An article about Texas gun laws related to schools added to the archive.

KR Training shooting team member Roy Stedman won the Open division of the 2009 Space City Challenge. Assistant instructors Tom "Eddie" Hogel and John Daub taught the NRA Eddie Eagle gun safety program to a children's group. KR Training was mentioned in a newspaper article about western author Jim Griffin and his recent book signing tour.

March 2009: March 2009 edition of the KR Training e-news is now online. Just added another Basic Pistol 1 class on March 21 from 2-5 pm, and a Women on Target clinic on April 25.
