Red Dot Pistol Essentials

Course Description: The essential information and drills pistol shooters new to slide-mounted red dot pistols need to know. A limited number of loaner guns will be available for those that want to try red dot pistols before upgrading or purchase their own.

Note: this class will NOT include discussion of laser sights that project a laser onto the target. It will focus on slide mounted red dot sights like the Trijicon RMR, Deltapoint, Holosun, Swampfox, and similar.

Topics: Pros and cons of red dot sights, equipment configuration, red dot study summary, zeroing, finding the dot from ready and when drawing, 10-25 yard shooting, target transitions and evaluation of student skills using national standard courses of fire.

Length: 6-7 hours.

Prerequisites: Texas carry permit or equivalent shooting skill. Prior experience/training drawing from a holster recommended but not required.

Required Equipment: A handgun with a slide mounted red dot, belt holster, 350 rounds of ammunition, at least 2 magazines, magazine pouches, eye and ear protection.

Additional information: Karl is a Grand Master in USPSA's Carry Optics division, earned using a slide mounted red dot pistol. Sean Hoffman is a graduate of the Sage Dynamics (Aaron Cowan) and Modern Samurai Project (Scott Jedlinski) red dot pistol instructor programs.
