What's New (1997-1998)

December 1998: Happy Holidays! Travel to the Middle East for work kept me from getting the web page update and newsletter finished on time, but now that I'm back progress is once again being made. New this month: more photos from the past Advanced Training and Defensive Shotgun classes, new photos of the hard chrome job on Penny's Kimber, an updated match report on the Halloween match and a few broken link fixes.

November 1998: November brings a major web page update, work on the 1st half 1999 schedule and newsletter (going out after Thanksgiving), deer season, and preparation for the Defensive Shotgun course in December. We're also breaking in our new Schaefer custom cowboy holster rig that we'll be using in Cowboy Action Shooting matches next year. I'll also be performing with Java Jazz at the Filling Station on Thursday the 19th from 8:30-11:30 pm. Also new: match photos from the River City Shooters Halloween match.

October 1998: It's been a busy month, both for teaching and competing. Karl and Penny completed in the Coors/Taurus Paper and Iron Championship. Karl placed 9th and was 2nd in the pistol side match; Penny was Top D Limited and competed in the Top Of Class shootoff. John Kochan was Top D Limited at the River City Shooters' Halloween extravaganza.

Many thanks to the students who attended our fall Advanced Training weekend, especially those who drove in from Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Victoria and other places outside the Austin area. Here are some photos from the shooting and roleplaying sessions, taken by Paul Barnett, John Kochan, and Penny.

Special recognition is also due to the diehards who took the LTC renewal and Beyond the Basics classes in the pouring rain.

September 1998: Minor changes to the Austin Area Shooting FAQ.

August 1998: New match photos from the Texas Action Shooting Club August IPSC and Steel double match.

We've added two more Basic Pistol classes for Oct 3 and Nov 7. Check the class schedule for more details.

I'll be filling in for Java Jazz' keyboard player in September. Come out and see us at the Central Market Cafe Sept 6 and 12 (11-2 brunch) and at the Filling Station Sept 25 & 26 (9:30p - 1:30).

Also in September: NRA Refuse to Be a Victim® instructor Alice Tripp will be teaching a RTBAV class Sept 15 at the Hancock Recreation Center. Contact Dean McCormick for details.

July 1998: Hot links of the month...

The Steel Challenge is coming up in August. I've shot this match several times in the past, and it is one of the best, and most fun, matches on the circuit. This year's prize table is huge, and the match will be on ESPN. We can't make it this year but we're already making plans for next year's match. Visit the ISI WWW site for more details about the match.

The NRA now has a course locator on its WWW page. You can search by state and type of course. If you're an instructor, you can list your courses here.

We have our own domain name: https://www.krtraining.com. I'm still getting the WWW site changed over so you may see a few bugs here and there. Let me know if you find something broken.

June 1998: Photos from the wedding ceremony are now online. New photos from the Area 4 championship are now online.

The summer and fall training schedule is now on-line. We'll be offering some new classes, including a Defensive Shotgun class taught by Stressfire instructor Wendell Joost.

May 1998: We're married! It was quite a party, starting in Indiana on May 2nd and ending up in Austin a week later. Many, many thanks to everyone who attended the various events and were so generous with good wishes, gifts, and help with the parties! Check the wedding page for links to photos, match results, and other information.

The week before the wedding we shot the Space City Challenge. Penny was Top D Limited, shooting her Kimber.

April 1998: More photos: from the seminar we put on for the Austin Police SWAT team, and the Make a Wish charity match. The KR Training IPSC team did well at the Make a Wish match: Karl was 2nd overall and Top Open Master, Roy Stedman was Top C Limited, and Penny was Top D Limited. Here are the class winners and their trophies.

March 1998: New photos from the March Advanced Training weekend. Tom Schaefer will be teaching LTC and LTC renewal in March and April. Click here for the current class schedule. Penny's offering LTC and LTC renewal class in June. Email her if you're interested so she can set the class date.

February 1998: I'm selling off part of my LP/vinyl collection. Here's the list. I've also (finally!) posted the photos and course descriptions from the 1997 WSSF Ladies Charity Classic match.

October 1997: I've finally gotten the Area 5 1997 course descriptions amd Mile High Showdown pictures posted too. I've also put together a CD release of my original music called Lost In Time. Each CD is $20, including shipping. It's a sampler of the best songs from my independently released cassettes.

As of July 1997 this site got a major overhaul, including a new graphic design, and many new photos, articles, and information. In the FAQ section I've added some lists and links to firearms and self-defense products I recommend to students, and a list of recommended books. The KR Training schedule for August 97-May 98 is now on-line, along with excepts from my Texas LTC student handouts in HTML format. There's a summary of the changes to the Texas LTC law. I also have new match photos and course descriptions from the 1997 Area 5 (Indiana), Area 7 (Boston), Space City Challenge (Houston), and Mile High Showdown (Colorado) competitions.
