BEGINNER AND LICENSE TO CARRY CLASSES

New to shooting? Trying to figure out what gun to buy?

Our Basic Pistol 1 class is for new shooters and includes the opportunity to try 6-10 different guns, to aid the student in learning about action types, caliber, gun fit and other factors important in gun selection. Our $80 class costs less than what it would cost you to rent all those guns and buy ammo for each one at an indoor range. Every student gets one on one instruction when they are on the firing line.

Our Defensive Long Gun Essentials class can be taken with a rifle, shotgun, or pistol caliber carbine. It teaches the skills essential to defending a home or other facility with a long gun. This course is suitable for people with no prior formal firearms training but is also useful to experienced shooters seeking realistic defensive practice (shooting from cover, shooting with realistic time limits/speeds). We have rental equipment available for those that don't yet own a long gun.

We have sessions of these courses on the calendar in March and April.

CHUCK RIVES CLASSES APRIL 2

Chuck Rives returns to the A-Zone on April 2 to offer Empty Hand Against the Knife (8-12) and Simple Stick Defense (1-5). These courses teach basic skills and are suitable for those with no prior martial arts training, or those that have had training in the past and want a short refresher course.

NRA BASIC PISTOL BLENDED LEARNING COURSE

The NRA has converted its Basic Pistol class into a blended learning course. All the lecture material is now presented online. Students complete the course by attending a 3-4 range session. I wrote an extensive review of the online course, which is quite good, on the KR Training blog.

We will be offering the range portion of the NRA Basic Pistol course starting this summer, after the online course has been made available to the public.

CONFERENCES

March 11-13 is the annual Rangemaster Tactical Conference in Memphis, Tennessee. I'll be presenting the results of the 120 shooter study we conducted last year, comparing shooting performance with iron sights, slide mounted red dot sights, and green lasers. That work is also being submitted to an ergonomics journal for publication.

April 27-May 1 is the annual "A Girl and a Gun" conference in Marble Falls, Texas, where over 300 women shooters will enjoy many days of education, recreation, competition and community. AG&G is a national organization with chapters all over the US. Tracy Thronburg and I will be teaching several short courses as part of the AG&G conference again this year.

Both conferences have already sold out for this year. Each of these events features sessions run by dozens of top-tier national instructors and are fantastic values for your training dollar.

KATHY JACKSON INSTRUCTOR CLASS APRIL 22-25

In April we'll be hosting national trainer Kathy Jackson for her 4 day instructor development course. Tamara Keel published a review of the course for Shooting Illustrated, and Melody Lauer also recently reviewed the course. This should be an excellent class, not only for Kathy's insight into teaching women, but for general improvement of teaching skills. Highly recommended for all Texas LTC instructors, NRA instructors, and Rangemaster-certified instructors.

SUMMER EVENTS AND CLASSES

We are finalizing our plans for June-December classes, including a visit from HardWired Tactical & Caleb Causey in June, an integrated unarmed/knife/gun class with Leslie Buck in June, 4 classes with Tom Givens in September, a 3 day Street and Vehicle Tactics class with InSights Training in October, the return of the summer weekday evening IPSC matches and a wide variety of our courses. More details to be announced in the April newsletter.
